Northwest’s summer movie series is returning to campus. Sponsored by the Office of Campus Activities, all movies in the Tuesday-night series begin at 7 PM in the Performing Arts Center or, weather permitting, across the street at College Park Pavilion. The lone exception is Michael Clayton, which will be shown at 7 PM Wednesday, May 14. Summer movie nights are free and open to the public. The screening schedule is:

The Heart of America Tractor club will have a meeting on Thursday, May 15 at 7:30 PM at the Guilford Community Bldg in Guilford, MO.


There will be an Autism Benefit at Burger King in Maryville on Thursday, May 15 from 5 PM to 8 PM.


The Promotions Committee of the Bedford Area Development Center is planning a 1st Annual "BLAZING BBQ BASH'' to be held on Court Street in downtown Bedford on Saturday, May 17. Cooking begins at 6 Am and judging begins at 6 PM. The winners will be announced at the Street Dance and Beer Garden at 9:00PM. 100% Entry Payback! There will be a $25 Site Fee (please if possible register by May 10th), and a $20.00 Category Entry Fee. Categories include: Pork Ribs, Pork Butt/Shoulder, Beef Brisket, Whole Chicken and Steak. The 4th Annual Bedford In Bloom celebration will be held on Saturday, May 17. Events for the day include citywide garage sales, a pancake breakfast, a red brick run, an art show, downtown sidewalk sales, Iowa wine tastings, a butterfly release. Plus live big band music, Rainbow Iris Farm tours and a street dance and beer Garden.


The 41st Annial Braddyville High School reunion will be held on Friday, May 23 at Braddy Hall on East Main Street. Registration starts at 4:30 PM with the catered meal starting at 6:30 PM. Late reservations can be made by calling (712) 589-3682.


The Maryville High School Class of 2003 will have a reunion on Saturday, May 24 from 4 PM to 7 PM at Mozingo Lake at the Phillips Memorial Pavilion on the Point in Maryville, MO. Please bring $4 per person and a side dish - the meat will be provided.


The West Nodaway Alumni Banquet will be held Saturday, May 24 at 6:30 PM at the West Nodaway High School gymnasium in Burlington Junction. All alumni, including the 2008 graduating class are invited. The event will be a carry-in supper and dues for alumni are $3. Entertainment will be provided by the the "Goff Clan" (Roger, Sharla (Goff) Carter, Brian and Michael). There will also be a beautiful patriotic afghan raffle. Tickets are $1 for one ticket or $5 for six tickets.

Iron Kettle will present Graham's Annual Memorial Day Luncheon on Sunday, May 25 from 11 AM to 2 PM at the Graham Community Building. The menu will include fried chicken, salads, home baked bread, and more. Adults can eat for $8 and kids for $3. All proceeds from the event will go to Graham Community Betterment Activities.


There will be a 95th Birthday Celebration for Neva Nicholas on Sunday, May 25 from 2 PM to 4 PM at the First Christian Church in Burlington Junction, MO.


The Ride for Ryan will be held on Saturday, June 7 with registration at 10 AM and the ride leaving at Noon. The event will be held at St Joe Harley Davidson and the entry fee is $15. Over 400 motorcyles and vehicles take part in this parade that travels 100 miles thru Northwest MO. The ride ends at Las Palmas for an auction, band, door prizes, and more. Cost $12 per person to ride and funds will go towards the construction of schloarships to local high school students. For more information see this website.

The 2008 Heart of America Tractor Cruise will hold a benefit ride for the Abrielle Neff Foundation, the MD summer camp, Special Olympics, and Camp Quality on Saturday, June 21. There will also be a reunion on Friday night. The ride will start and end at the Living History Museum in King City, MO and there will alos be a public barbeque after the cruise with a free will donation collected. The Peer Support Line is now up and running in this area. The line is for people with and affected by mental illness and provides support, contact with others in similar situations, and understanding. The Survivor Support Group meets monthly on the first Thursday from 6 PM to 7 PM at the Wesley Center located at 549 West Fourth St. in Maryville. All those whose lives have been touched by the tragedy of suicide are invited to come talk and share thoughts and feelings in a comfortable and confidential setting. The Northwest Opry featuring the Grand River Pickers will perform every Sunday at Movie Magic (214 West 3rd) from 2 PM to 5 PM. Walk on performers are welcome and there is also a snack bar and dance floor at the event. Everyone in the area is welcome to attend.


The Parnell American Legion Post #528 hosts a free will donation breakfast the first Sunday of each month. All proceeds go toward community projects.

Maryville Parks and Recreation hosts a Senior Pitch Tournament each Tuesday afternoon from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM at the Maryville Community Building. There is no charge to participate.


There will be a Loss of a Child support group from 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM every fourth Tuesday of the month at St. Francis Hospital's Hospitality Room. Refreshments will be served at the meetings and for more information call 582-8510.


The Maryville Public Library will host a Book Club meeting on the third Tuesday of each month from 7 PM to 9 PM in the library basement. All interested readers are invited to attend and a book list is available from the library.

Sheridan Community Betterment Club hosts dances every fourth Saturday night of the month at the Sheridan School from 9 PM to 1 AM, with breakfast following. All proceeds will go to improvements and maintenance of the school building.


Temple Baptist Church holds "The Kings Kids Program" starting at 7 PM every Wednesday night. This is for children in grades 1 - 6 and includes playing games and learning about the bible.
